An Interactive Introduction to Robotic Surgery for Heartburn and GERD will be held at the Village by the Sea Resort & Conference Center, 1373 Post Road, Wells, Maine on Monday, August 23. This free program will feature York Hospital surgeons Anthony Hesketh, MD, PhD, Molly Buzdon, MD, FACS and Jessica Schnur, MD, FACS.
Do you suffer from heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)? You’re not alone. Nearly half of American adults have a history of GERD, a condition that allows food and stomach acids to move back up the esophagus. If you, or someone you know, is dealing with this, please join Dr. Hesketh, surgeon at Surgery Associates of York Hospital, along with colleagues Dr. Buzdon and Dr. Schnur, as they discuss the health issues associated with heartburn and GERD, as well as treatment options. Dr. Hesketh will present and share the latest advances in robotic-assisted surgery available at York Hospital. He will offer a “hands-on” demonstration of what the da Vinci Xi Surgical system can provide to patients with a history of GERD. Following the presentation all guests will have the opportunity to “be the surgeon” and operate the robot. The discussion will include:
- What is GERD? What causes and contributes to it?
- How is GERD evaluated?
- What is a hiatal hernia and how does it contribute to reflux?
- Therapy options, including lifestyle changes, medications and surgery
- Is a robotic approach less invasive, with a faster healing time?
- What to expect with robotic surgery?
- What about robotic-assisted surgery for other surgical procedures?
Dr. Anthony Hesketh holds a BS from the University of Notre Dame, an MS from Georgetown University, MD from Wright State University and PhD in Molecular Medicine from Elmezzi Graduate School of Molecular Medicine. He is fellowship trained in bariatric, foregut and minimally invasive surgery from Stony Brook University.
Dr. Molly Buzdon earned both her BS and MD at the University of Michigan. She is fellowship trained in minimally invasive surgery from the University of Maryland Medical System.
Dr. Jessica Schnur earned her BA from the University of Pennsylvania, her MD from Mount Sinai School of Medicine and is fellowship trained in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery from Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
